Ignacio Carrion
ElephantBridge.com

Ignacio Carrion, 39, is an entrepreneur, writer, and avid art collector—but most of all, he's someone who understands the power of information when put in the hands of consumers.

ElephantBridge.com was created after Carrion's personal experience with dealing with the health care system after his mother’s brain tumor was misdiagnosed time and time again.

"We just went from doctor to doctor and did what was instructed," explains Carrion. His mother’s symptoms began with severe headaches which were attributed to depression by a neurologist. He recommended she see a psychiatrist. The symptoms worsened year after year until five years later, her condition deteoriated. Carrion's mother underwent two emergency operations.

"Luckily, they were able to save her," notes Carrion, "but the whole experience made me realize that I needed to be wiser when it came to the health of the people I cared for the most."

A native Houstonian, Carrion graduated from the High School of Performing Visual Arts and attended Tulane University in New Orleans, graduating with a degree in Political Science.

Then Carrion got his first taste in becoming an entrepreneur in 1994, at the age of 26, when he and two colleagues created Phoenix Fuel Corporation. The company resold jet fuel, primarily selling to the secondary aviation markets such as cargo operators and smaller airlines. Fluent in Spanish, Carrion handled supply and marketing throughout Latin America and Mexico.

After eleven years, and after the ordeal of his mother’s final surgery, Carrion finally left the company to start ElephantBridge.com. "I wanted to arm other consumers with the best information possible so that they never have to go through what I went through with my mother," explains Carrion. "My goal is to have ElephantBridge become the most comprehensive database for doctors not only in Texas, but all over the nation."

Carrion enjoys creative writing in his spare time. He is also on the Advisory Board for the Blaffer Gallery at the University of Texas.

As for his 68-year old mother, his inspiration for his new company, Carrion says happily, "She's a firecracker. Now, I can barely keep up with her."
Ron Enderland
Ron Enderland has been a part time freelance writer since 1994, but is having too much fun at his regular job as a computer geek to consider having a go at writing full time. His work has appeared in around fifty local and national publications. He woke up in the middle of the night in November, 2006 with the idea of taking advantage of his many childhood memories. He realized that there were a whole lot of Baby Boomers out there who would enjoy sharing his reminiscences of life in the 60's and 70's, and created

IRememberJFK.com. Within two months, he had been noticed by CBS News' Regina Lewis, who profiled the site on The Early Show.

Ron lives in Northwest Arkansas with his patient wife of 24 years, two cats, and two miniature schnauzers.

Linda Franklin
Linda Franklin had a dream-come-true Wall Street career which spanned 25 years. She was the first Canadian woman to own a seat on the New York Stock Exchange and she was a managing partner in charge of arbitrage trading for a leading Wall Street investment firm. However, just before her 50th birthday, she realized it was time to leave the business. Her company was transitioning and so was she. She was starting to experience many unwanted changes in her body and her psyche. These changes prompted her to begin an in depth exploration into the challenges of aging.

Never being satisfied with cookie cutter information, Linda began doing her own research. For nearly a decade, she did extensive study on the effects of menopause and andropause on our overall health. She delved into the many emotional components that are integral parts of the aging process. She worked with many physicians in varying specialties including gynecology, endocrinology, psychology, anti-aging and homeopathy. Utilizing the knowledge she had gathered, Linda created High-Yield Living™. It is a unique methodology that helps guide others who are entering a new chapter in their lives. High-Yield Living™ is a true triumph of the spirit and is designed to resurrect the passion and promise that defines the baby boomer generation.

She's had a great time meeting interesting men, some of whom became romantic beaus, some became treasured friends, and some were never heard from again.

She describes herself as, "Not one of those well-preserved, gorgeous, marathon-running middle-aged women. I have been told I am attractive, but I am overweight and not a gym rat. So while I am active, I do not match the description 90% of men's profiles say they want: slender, athletic, toned, fit. Yet I've met and dated some wonderful men, so even if you're not a lingerie model, you can find guys who will think you're attractive, perhaps even hot!"

She continues to search for her 'one,' but has learned a lot along the way. Her friends have encouraged her to share her experiences and lessons in the hopes of helping others navigate the adventure of dating with more success.

Terry Lerdall-Fitterer
Being as one is somewhat obligated to write a short biography of their colorful, glamorous and mind-boggling self, I would love more than anything to give you a most impressive one-but, unfortunately can not. I am just a writer who is middle-aged, broke, searching for an editor who will appreciate my work and actually pay me for it and still trying to figure out just WHO to schmooze to get a column in a newspaper.

I have been published in most of the small press, some newspapers, magazines, Poet's Market, and am currently appearing in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine with my humorous murder poems. How sick is this?!

So, read, enjoy, and most of all don't hold my true, but dysfunctional lifestyle against me!

Carol Marak
Carol Marak specializes in family caregiving research. She knows the difficulties of staying focused on the job at work while overseeing the care of an elder loved one. The volumes of resources, services and information on the Internet are exploding in numbers and it's difficult to cut through the ones limited in quality of care for aging seniors.

A self-claimed expert in understanding working caregivers and the hardships you face daily, Carol can help you quickly swift through what works and what does not. She helped her mom; living with CHF, maintain a good quality of life until her passing. And now her dad's living with stage 3 Alzheimer's. It's been an incredible journey caring for aging loved ones. It's a challenging process to locate helpful and quality services and resources. The most difficult being; dealing with incompetent caregiving services. It's painful to observe your parent's care put on the backburner due to the lack of staffing and resources, or unskilled training of staff, or complacency developed over time because caregiving is a thankless job. She believes it's the attitude of aging in today's society that's crippling the caregiving industry. One that sounds like "you're going to die anyway, so what's the use?" Aging equates terminal.

She's written several articles on working full time and caring for an elder loved one that addresses hard lessons learned as a working caregiver.

Carol Marak is the founder of http://www.workingcaregiver.com. It's dedicated to working family caregivers who oversee a loved one's aging process.

Gilbert, AZ 85296-5802

Linda@LifePathSolutions.biz

Linda is the founder and President of Life Path Solutions, Inc. She works with families, singles and career professionals in all stages of life to plan for the unexpected. Linda speaks about the need for a safety net for life and how to plan for life's unexpected "gotcha's." The Baby Boomer generation tend to spend more time planning their next vacation than they do planning their lives. Linda believes that creating this safety net to be the biggest investment they will ever make for their own future security.

Therefore, Linda provides guidelines and options to help people prepare their own safety net. Her topics are high-content common sense wisdom mixed with a good deal of humor and real-life choices. Her approach to those not-so-pleasant and all to often avoided (but necessary), details, will help people understand what they need to think about to secure their families' and their own futures.

Her 12 year hands-on experience as a working caregiver to her Mother provides the passion for her talks on caregiving. Because the "sandwich generation" is at the caregiving decision point, Linda believes they need to take care of themselves in order to be able to care for others. When a caregiver needs care, theres a crisis, and she talks about how to avoid those crises before they happen.

Linda is a professional speaker, the author of three books, and serves on the board of directors of the Caregiver's Resource Institute and the Women's Enterprise Foundation. Linda is a member of the Alliance for Holistic Aging, the National Association of Women Writers and the National Association of Women Baby Boomers. She lives in Chandler, Arizona with her two cats, Sam and Ginger. She can be contacted through her website at: www.LifePathSolutions.biz.

Jacqueline Wales
I started my career as a coach and motivational speaker when I was nine years old on the tenement steps of Leith, Scotland giving advice to the local children. It continues today as I regularly give advice to people in my coaching and speaking business Fearless Fifties.

Carole King said in one of her songs, 'my life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue'. As a late blooming baby boomer, I use my experiences to encourage and inspire other women to approach life and living with courage and strength.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, I was the oldest of three which included two brothers, the youngest of which was severely retarded. Since my mother worked and my father was challenged by some serious alcohol issues, the care of my younger brothers became mine from the age of seven.

At 15, I left school and home, and met a gypsy woman who told me I would have five children. My first thought was, not in this lifetime! There was no way I would be a good mother. It was hard enough to take care of myself as I struggled with drug and alcohol dependency.

By the time I was 19 I was pregnant for the first time and gave up my daughter for adoption a year later. Nineteen years later, I had 3 more children and a stepdaughter, successfully becoming the good enough mother I said I could never be. The gypsy was right.

Having devoted a great deal of my life to raising children and taking care of family, I decided at age 40 to pursue my passions and began writing. It was a difficult transition because I did not believe I had any creative talents, but I was curious and before long I also began to sing and compiled an album of songs, which would eventually lead me to a short career as a cantor for synagogues in Paris and Amsterdam. With a great deal of encouragement and support from writing mentors, I wrote five books in ten years. I also took up martial arts and at the age of 49 earned my black belt in karate.

I've been a global nomad and lived in London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, Bali and now New York. The traveling life has suited me well as it has allowed me to explore both my inner and outer worlds in a way that would never have seemed possible as I sat on the tenement steps of Leith.

My latest book WHEN THE CROW SINGS, a novel, is based on the real life story of my family. A powerful story that explores the history of mothers who abandoned their children until one woman had the courage to break the chains and give her daughter up for adoption. It is due for release March 2007.

As a Co-Active coach, the relationship with my clients helps me support them to find their own way past the challenges they confront, towards the solutions that continue to improve the quality of their life. Using my talents as a performer, writer and speaker I motivate Baby Boomer women to become the women they were meant to be so they can create the life they want.

Chef Yvonne
Born in The Hague, the city where the Queen of the Netherlands resides, Yvonne moved all over the world, and her career is not limited to one skill, but contains an excellence in graphic design, fitness and cooking.

Her grandmother was an excellent cook, and ran a lunchroom near the Royal Palace, "Paleis Noordeinde", in The Hague with great expertise, and was often honored with a visit of the late Queen of Holland, Princess Juliana, who enjoyed a lunch or late afternoon tea at the establishment.

At the age of 7, Yvonne moved with her family to Suriname, where her father became the Music Conductor of the Dutch-Suriname Army Orchestra. Here her love for different cultures developed rapidly, because her neighbors on the right were Hindus, and the neighbors on the left were Creole. Their eating habits intrigued Yvonne immensely. During the three years, Yvonne lived there, she learned about the use of ingredients, indigenous to the different cuisines, the hard way - she helped her neighbor cleaning the hot peppers to make sambal, and wiped off a drop of sweat from her face, which resulted in a tremendous burning experience.

Yvonne worked as a free lancer Graphic designer at Wehkamp, the largest mail-order company in the Netherlands for almost 10 years, when she met her second husband John Stephens.

After moving to the United State, Yvonne was supported by John, her son Michael and her dog Trigger, who she calls her three musketeers, in her fight against her eating disorder bulimia. She became active in teaching aerobics, spinning, kick-boxing and started to research eating habits and diets, to support her fight against unhealthy weight gain or loss.

A remark of distress by her mom, Wil van Uffelen, was also one of the reasons Yvonne started to take a closer look at lifestyle and eating habits. Her mom had expressed sadness, that she had not been able to teach her daughter traditional and proper Dutch eating regimes. This made Yvonne realize that all through her years as a teenager, she and her friends, ate all they liked, in moderation, traditionally with meat-potatoes-veggies as a daily meal, but always made fresh. Her mother used to make breakfast, prepare a lunch-bag, and cook dinner for the whole family every day fresh. Traditionally, the Dutch are also very active, and Yvonne's activities were biking to school, and to the stables for a few hours of horse-riding.

After closing their fitness center in Florida, Yvonne started to do more research about lifestyle and eating habits by visiting several countries in Europe. She talked to local people about their produce, herbs and spices; how they used them in their diet; they let her taste, and shared their recipes.

Yvonne has frequently traveled to Asia: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. She visited the Dutch Antilles, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Turkey, Tunisia, and many countries in Europe, where she traveled for a few months to finalize her research away from the big cities by driving from Holland to Portugal at the southern tip of Europe, and back, visiting Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Spain, and the picturesque fisher villages in the Algarve.

After moving to New Jersey, Yvonne enrolled at the Art Institute of Philadelphia to learn more about American eating, and perfecting her cooking skills. After graduating with an Associates degree in Culinary Science, Yvonne worked at QVC as assistant of Bob Bowersox in "In the Kitchen With Bob".

She also gives cooking demos and classes to teach how to cook healthy and easy meals. She is excited to share her knowledge through her books in the series called "Get Real With Healthy Eating".

Do the books in this series bring a new trend, or are they based on new research? The answer is simple: No, it is old knowledge, shared with us for thousands of years, but forgotten, ignored and adjusted many times, but the only way to lose weight is not to let it go that far. This is called weight management.

More than 120 million people, here in the USA, are overweight, of which 60 million obese. That is a very large number of people, who have eating and general lifestyle habits that are threatening their health and life.

"Wok-Infusion" is the first book in the "Get Real with Healthy Eating" series, that will help people to go back to the kitchen, prepare healthy, easy to make foods, explains what to use, how to use it, and how to prepare a delicious meal in less than 7 minutes.
